Stavros – Prasovouno – Psili Ammos – Stavros: 6 km – 3.5 hours

Circular route

Start: Diakofti, at the end of the automobile road leading to the southeast peninsula of Patmos.

See: an interesting but difficult route – vertical cliffs and ‘alpine’ meadows, wonderful views of Chora, the church of Profitis Ilias and the cliffs of the “Devil.” Plus the surprise of the ravine!

This is a terrific hike, but while the segment from Stavros to Psili Ammos is a bona fide trail, the rest of the loop is more of a route. From the beach at Psili Ammos, the route follows a dry streambed for half a km, then climbs to a ridge. Look for small markers with a “6” and a directional arrow, as well as occasional cairns. Recommended: topo map; extra water; binoculars (for locating route markers); and hiking pole (for some rough terrain). You really can’t get lost on this route, but you could find that it takes longer than you planned or that some sections are more like cross-country travel than you expected.

Vandalism report. Signs marking path #6 have been ripped off the post at the beginning of the ascent shortly past Stavros.
